F O Salisbury painted historical and ceremonial portraits. Studied in Heatherleys, Royal Academy Schools and Italy. Lived in London and Harpenden Hertfordshire.

This beautiful portrait, not dated, measuring 102 x 76 cm was badly damaged by a fall which resulted in loss of paint above the hair and a tear on the hair area. Otherwise it was in excellent condition.

The painting was relined to strengthen the canvas that was thin and frail.
It was cleaned with solvents of different strengths to remove the old varnish and atmospheric pollution. The vibrant original colours came back to life after cleaning.
The tear and missing areas were filled in and retouched.
A final layer of varnish was applied.
All the work is 100% reversible
